Television shows I love:
Battlestar Galactica
Skins (SERIOUSLY. IT IS AMAZING. The first series, at least, which is all I have seen)
Friday Night Lights
The Office
Television shows I don't have the energy for:
The 800 other things we used to watch and still record, thus rendering TiVo a terrifying prospect.

Do any of you have a Tumblr? I've wanted one for a while, but held off because no one I knew had one. Then Marya got one and lo, I had an excuse! Mine is here; tell me your username and I'll "follow" (creepy!) you!

"I was convinced before I ever met Stephenie that she was a mad person who completely believed she was Bella, and this was just her fantasy," said Pattinson, best known for playing Cedric Diggory in two of the "Harry Potter" films. "It's kind of like voyeurism. ... It seems like it's something like a fan-fiction thing, which was never intended to be read by anyone."
I find it really hilarious that Robert Pattinson clearly hates the Twilight books.

We've been watching season 2 of The West Wing, which, as you may know if you were around a couple of years ago, is absolutely positively one of my top 5 seasons of television ever and makes me cry, on average, once an episode. So the fact that Rahm Emanuel is going to be Obama's Chief of Staff is exciting, of course, because he is a badass who could have been a ballet dancer, went to Sarah Lawrence, has a perfecto pro-choice voting record, and is loved by the HRC and loathed by the Christian Coalition, but also because HE IS JOSH LYMAN and The West Wing, which has long since taken over MY HEART, is now TAKING OVER REALITY. Awesome.
In other news, I had a bad dream this morning, and so I have been in a grumpy mood all day. But that's okay, because I tend to clean when I am in a bad mood, and the living room needed vacuuming. Silver lining!

We are recognizing our potential, and I don't know that I have ever been so proud of my country.
I have no words for this moment.

feeling like: hopeful
Today I cast my votes for hope, equality, and respect. I know we're not perfect, I know that the civil rights movement was not so very long ago, and that despite the efforts of so many, racism is still alive and well in this country. But I also know that today, I was able to vote for Barack freaking Obama, and so I have to believe that things are continuing to getting better. He is qualified, he is intelligent, he is articulate and kind and inspiring. And he is black. And not so long ago, that last fact would have entirely eclipsed all the others. But today, he has a clear chance at being the most powerful man in the world. This obviously isn't the only positive change he represents, not by a long shot, but it is the one that has struck me most often throughout this election, and it is the one that almost brought me to tears when I opened my folder and saw his name there.
I'm sick with nerves, but I am hoping with all my heart that voters across the country are casting ballots for Obama, and Californians specifically are filling in those arrows in the interest of equality for everyone, regardless of sexual orientation, the safety of young women, and, yes, a greater degree of respect for the animals that feed so many.
